Guariuba
Species profile
The wood is yellow, becoming lustrous brown with light. Ribbon like aspect on quartersawn. It has clearly demarcated sapwood. The grain is straight or interlocked
and the texture is medium. Density at 12 % moisture content: 0.69 g/cm3.

The blunting effect is high and peeling and slicing is reported to be good. It is sometimes difficult to obtain a smooth surface due to interlocked grain. Keep sharp
tools. Nailing is good and gluing is correct. Guariuba dries normal. Risks of end checking on quartersawn during kiln drying.

Guariuba is moderately durable to fungi and is durable to dry wood borers; sapwood
demarcated (risk limited to sapwood).

Guariuba can be used for several applications such as:
• interior: e.g. high class furniture, stairs, panelling, flooring, veneer
• exterior: e.g. wood frame house, bridges, panelling
Can be used as substitute for Marple (Acer spp.), Birch (Betula spp.) or Boxwood(Buxus spp.).
