Giraffe House at Blijdorp Zoo
According to the architects who designed it, the Giraffe House at Blijdorp Zoo is the most sustainable building designed for animals in the Netherlands. Among the steps taken to ensure the sustainability of the building all the wood used for the construction is FSC-certified.

The lesser known species Tatajuba was used for both the structural and the curved beams. For the remaining parts of the building Guariuba was used. To further ensure the sustainability of the building it was created according to the “Cradle to Cradle” principles and thus most of the materials are easily be recycled. The choice of materials also means that the building is nearly free of maintenance.
